New Exhibition Opens at Middelheim Museum
Antony Gormley follows Thomas Schütte as guest exhibitor in the new semi-open exhibition pavilion Het Huis (The House), built by Robbrecht and Daem for the Middelheim Museum.
The exhibition, Firmament And Other Forms, will question the human body’s attachment to architecture. All the works on view are based on the ‘bubble-matrix’ - a random but consistent geometry found in nature, which also forms the structural syntax of Firmament III - a major work which has been gifted to the Museum with the support of Xavier Hufkens, Brussels.
’I believe firmly in sculpture’s ability to make a place, not simply to take it, and I feel that this clearing in the park has been waiting for the arrival of Firmament III. Having arrived, its openness has become something else, catalysed by this ghost of a living room, drawn with the connective skeletons of nesting polyhedra; a memory of human shelter now made in the form of the most fugitive things of all: bubbles.’
