BLANKET DRAWINGS, 1982 - 1983

These works made in the early 1980s are simply a registration of the position of the body when sleeping on the blanket under which it would lie. In registering the sleeping body as an absence in a field of clay, it begins to float as if immersed in water - the kind of locomotion that interests me because it is not about causal action but about participation in a medium. The first works use Thames mud and linseed oil, the later China clay.
