The exhibition brought together works which addressed the ‘Hard Place’ - the tangible, evocative materials and forms that make up our world. Many of these works explored the broad theme of time, layering history and memory, or focusing on the transitory, fragile nature of existence and the duality of mind and body. The second theme of the exhibition was the notion of ‘Cinema’, encapsulating not only the moving image but also the way in which the world is mediated through language and imagery, including the narrative structures of film, literature, television and theatre.

Gormley presented Three Ways: Mould Hole And Passage (1981-82).
