Firmament III Unveiled at Middelheim Museum
Firmament III is now on view as part of the permanent collection at Middelheim Museum, Antwerp where the silvery reflective filigree of the work will pick up the light of the changing seasons and be a constant invitation to the visitor to penetrate the work and consider his or her place within the order of things.
The work was made in 2009 for Antony Gormley’s solo exhibition at Xavier Hufkens in Brussels. Completely negating the orthogonal geometries of architecture, this irregular three dimensional net surrounded a human-shaped void approximately ten times life size. The sculpture is a matrix in which the viewer as much as the work becomes the object of perception.
