Precarious stacking, where part relates to part, part to whole, and whole sculpture to building, is tested in the twice-life-size terracotta ‘Slabworks’. Built from massive slabs of fired terracotta, these works construct the body's anatomy in the language of architecture: two figures lean together like a house of cards, supporting each other and creating a unified structure of connection using only deadweight and stacking as construction principles. The works celebrate the way that our species has used adapted geological materials to construct a world we would like to think permanent.
