Early Glass Works

In the same way that I had experimented with slate, wood and marble, I tried to use glass in a way that described its character of transparency and fragility. Both Glass Pool and Glass Mountain were attempts to make wholes from parts. In the case of Glass Mountain, I took a small glass chip, drew around it and then cut another sheet to the same shape and continued this process until I had made a vertical stack about 60 cm high. Glass Pool is smashed pieces of 6 mm thick glass laid out on the floor and re-cut in concentric rings to unify the disparate elements.

All of the early works in stone, wood and glass, are attempts to find a structure and content within the material itself.
