Angel Of The North - 20th Anniversary
15th February 2018 marks twenty years since the Angel Of The North first spread its wings over the community of Gateshead, UK.
Standing twenty metres high, with a wingspan measuring fifty-four metres across, the sculpture overlooks the A1 motorway into Tyneside and the thirty-three million people who pass it each year.
The hilltop on which it stands, marks the remains of the pithead baths after the closure of the Lower Tyne Colliery; together the Angel Of The North and its side, celebrate the extraordinary industrial history of the North of England.
To mark the twentieth anniversary, Gateshead Council are organising a range of ‘Angel 20’ events, exhibitions and workshops throughout 2018.
