For this project, Gormley brushed diluted sumi ink across 100 sheets of washi paper, letting it soak and bleed until apertures of light emerged, radiating outwards from each sheet’s centre. Into these apertures, a body was then printed using a hand-carved woodblock, creating a charged encounter between body, light and ground. The printer worked unconventionally, shifting the registration marks in response to the unique bleed pattern of each sheet.
Rapt was produced in collaboration with The Adachi Foundation, Japan.
